  • Triple boot (WIN11, WINXP and WIN98SE)

    Hi all,


    I might have an insane question. I watched a video on youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3nCSGApJGbQ and it looked like something I wanna try. My question is 1. Can I use different GPUs in my rig? I currently have a RTX 4070 Ti Super (I know this will only work with WIN11). I want to add 7800 GTX (for WINXP/WIN98SE).

    My current setup is:

    ASRock Z790 Riptide
    Intel i9 14900K
    64GB DDR5 6600MT/s RAM
    MSI Aurus 4070 GTX Ti Super
    3 x 2TB NVMe SSD
    500GB SSD
    240GB SSD
    120GB SSD

    I only have 2 PCIe slots if I move my current GPU to the 3rd (slowest) slot. I would then be able to put in the 7800 GTX and a generic PCIe CMI8738 chip Sound Card.

    Am I nuts or is this a possiblity???

    While I'm not sure about this configuration, I know from personal experience that you can have a a PCIe GPU active as well as having an iGPU (integrated GPU) like what intel includes on many of their CPUs - however this is BIOS
    dependent. Had this working on a dell with a core 2 q6600 back when those were a thing & I believe that some newer motherbaords/BIOSes still support this.

    As for multiple different PCIe cards... it might work if you motherboard's BIOS lets you select which of the cards is to be used as the primary graphics adapted?? I think the only way you are going to know is to just try it out.

    Generally, the card with some kind of display device attached will become the primary. You may find they also SLI/Crossfire together, since that currently uses the PCIe bus, not the older style bridge any more. That will be card dependent though.
