Hi Ferret,
very good question, which is actually not answered in detail in the Mystic documentation. The function Networking > Edit File Requests in Mystic BBS is somewhat undocumented and is rarely actively used, because file requests (FREQs) in the FTN context are usually handled directly by mailers like BINKD, FD, MBSE, etc. Nevertheless, there are hints and experiences from the community and source files.
Here is, what I know:
In Mystic BBS you can use this function to edit data/filerequets.txt.
Unfortunately, the format is not officially documented, but based on known examples, it looks like this:
<requested_filename> <path/to/file>
INFO.ZIP /mystic/files/info/info.zip
FAQ.TXT /mystic/files/docs/faq.txt
This means:
If a file request comes in for INFO.ZIP, the file /mystic/files/info/info.zip will automatically be sent (if it exists).
The function is integrated into the Mystic File Server and processes FREQ requests that come in via BINKP/BINKD/FTN, if Mystic is acting as the frontend mailer.
In practice, however, many sysops use the FREQ mechanisms of their FTN mailer and do not let Mystic handle FREQs directly, since it is rarely operated in
"frontend" mode.
Does it actually work?
You can test it by sending a request to your Mystic server from an external BBS or with a tool like freq, or via Areafix from another node.
You will then see in the logfile whether Mystic matches the request and deliver the file.
have fun!
