• Help with dial-up...

From Shurato@21:2/148 to All on Mon Jul 27 00:43:00 2026
Vonage just recently started supporting a second line with my single VOIP device again, so I ordered a modem. I'm wondering how fossil will work with dial-up, Windows 10 32 bit and my BBS. Will I be able to continue to use netfoss seamlessly, or will I need to check for the node number in my nf.bat file and load the appropriate fossil driver (BNU, ADF or X00). Would 32bit doors using winsock work for these connections? Thanks!

I used BNU as my FOSSIL and NetSerial as my com routines or my dialup line when I had it a year ago.

I played with this awhile back with netfoss & net2bbs. You can get it to "work" as long as Vonage supports the G.711u or G.711a codec. If it only supports G.729 then it will seldom work, if at all.

I say "work" because even if when all things are optimal it was always kind of flaky. I left it up for nearly a year, other than getting people to test it at the beginning nobody ever dialed in. More of a novelty than anything else.

While we are on the subject, I seem to remember hearing that Ooma supports one or both of those codecs. Does anyone have any experience using Ooma to support dial-up? Do you use their supplied ATA device or one of your own (and, if your own, which)?

    Thanks!
