• Location based question

From Tom Moore@1:135/205 to All on Mon Apr 29 11:34:03 2024
Where should a bbs sysop say a board is based out of if they have their board hosted with a service such as Aws?
Should they say based on Aws's data center or should they say where they are based as their home location?
As an example I am based in FL, but my system itself is based out of an Aws data center in VA.

    Any thoughts?

Traditionally, it's where the Sysop lives, or where the local phone number is. My BBS is hosted at Linode.com, physically located in Dallas, TX. I, however, live in Wisconsin.

I do have a dialup line which is a local number for me, (but it isn't set up for mail). It just forwards calls via telnet to the BBS.

I think it should be listed as where the Sysop lives.

I would say where the Sysop lives.

    Where the Sysop is based.

I have a few nodes that have their systems in the "cloud".

If my system had a major failure I would also consider that but there again I do have the odd back up even if it is a Raspberry Pi 3B+ (+ HDD), bit slow but I doubt any one would notice. I have also bought a Pi4+ 8GB with a SSD M.2 but never used. I intend to install unbuntu 22.04 or may be 24.04 to it and sell it on ebay as the boxes are just gathering dust may be with a Apple Pro 2008 with 2 Xeon 4 core CPU's which is another bit of kit I never use despite upgrading it last year to 32Gb, a full sized Apple keyboard along with wireless
    mouse and short keyboard.

Another product bought to test some software and hardly use and again cluttering up the house along with its original boxes.

I really must stop buying this type of kit :(
