PyGate is a Python-based gateway system that bridges FidoNet echomail and NNT newsgroups, allowing
seamless message exchange between the two networks. PyGate is designed to run on the NNTP news server,
but can be run on a different computer as a client only.

Does it "provide" a news server, or do you need to have a separate
package set up to do that? If so, what do you recommend?

You need to be running INN already, or have access to a news server.
PyGate has two modes of operation.
1: Run's on the news server or remote (needs ssh access) to control what groups to add/remove, via ctlinn.
2: Client mode, just like a normal news reader. Groups must all ready be on the server.
