    Hi Dave,

Sometimes when ahurricane hits along thee Gulf of Mexico - like
Katrina in '05,it will come right up theMississippi and give us an unwelcome bath.. And spawn tornadoes. Eeeeeewwwww.

We were in Hawaii when that hit--but out there at one point one summer,
we had 5 hurricanes coming at us. There was enough ocean between us and them that they all fizzled out before hitting land.

Aren't Pacific hurricane called "typhoon" (from "tai fun" or"supreme wind")

They are, on the other side of the International Date Line. This side,
    they're still hurricanes.

I can recommend "Typhoon" byJoseph Conrad for your reading pleasure.

Have to check it out, thanks.

I'm using an HP, not quite as small as a net book or tablet, not quite
as big as a full on laptop. In a way, it is a lap top as I just curl up
in a recliner with the computer on my lap.

I have three Asus EEE PCs that I have picked up over the years. Mostly
I use them as jukeboxes - playing music while I work on something.

We had a couple of them at one point; Dale suggested them when we
thought Steve was going to be deployed. It was something easy to use and
with both of us having one, if I developed a problem, he could trouble
shoot. Turned out, he never deployed so we eventually moved on. In 2020,
we donated them (and others) to the school system so students who were
trying to learn remotely on phones could have something better.

It was a good read for me. Never got tedious or made me want to jump ahead.

MMMMM----- Recipe via Meal-Master (tm) v8.06

    Title: Middle-School Tacos
Categories: Beef, Vegetables, Chilies, Herbs, Breads
    Yield: 6 servings

    2 tb Neutral oil
1 md Yellow onion; peeled, diced
    4 cl Garlic; peeled, minced
    2 lb Ground beef
    2 tb Chile powder
    1 tb Ground cumin
2 ts (ea) kosher salt & black
    Pepper
    2 ts Cornstarch
    2 ts Smoked paprika
    1 ts Crushed red-pepper flakes;
    - more to taste
1 c Chicken or beef broth
12 (to 18) hard taco shells

    MMMMM--------------------------TOPPINGS-------------------------------
    Grated cheese
    Sliced jalapenos
    Chopped tomatoes
    Shredded lettuce
    Sour cream
    Guacamole

Place a large skillet over medium-high heat, and add the
oil. When it begins to shimmer, add the onion, and cook
until softened and starting to brown, approximately 5 to
    7 minutes.

Add the garlic, and cook for a minute or so to soften,
and then the ground beef. Cook until the beef is
starting to brown, stirring and chopping with a spoon to
break up the meat, approximately 5 to 7 minutes. Pour
off excess fat, leaving only a tablespoon or two in the
    pan.

    Set oven @ 325oF/165oC.

Add the chile powder, cumin, salt, pepper, cornstarch,
paprika and red-pepper flakes, and stir to combine. Add
the broth, stir, bring to a simmer and cook uncovered
until the sauce has thickened slightly, approximately 4
    to 5 minutes.

As sauce cooks, place taco shells on a sheet pan, and
toast in oven until they are crisp and smell nutty.
Serve a few tablespoons of meat in each taco, along with
    whatever toppings you like.

True, but 5 years ago when everything was shut down tight and parents
wanted to have their children continue their learning, teaching thru
Zoom was really big. Some kids had no computers at home but a parent
might have a smart phone that the kid could use. Teachers quickly found
out that phone screens were not as good as PC screens so around here, a
lot of appeals were put out for used but still useable computers. We contributed the EEPCs (eeps's) and some others we had, after Steve
cleaned them up, put on some basic work programs, etc. Helped us (a bit
more room, soon to be replaced by radio equipment) and helped several
    kids learn better.

Thanks, I need to get some new reading material on the Nook and Ken
Follette's new book isn't out yet.

I do get the listing but have never gotten anything thru them (yet). I'd probably not get cook books as I prefer hard copy for them. Just
unsubscribed from a web site of fig recipies when they tried (didn't
succeed because we don't do Windows) sending some malware instead of a
    recipe.

About the time I got my Nook, both you and a local friend reccommended
this site. I've browsed, but just not pulled the trigger yet, on any
    books.

I've used my tablet for Zoom. At the time, schools were scrounging
anything they could get so kids wouldn't have to rely on phones for
    connecting with their classes.

I'm not saving nearly as much as I was when I first got on the echo. Noe
    I look for something specific.
