I think a laser printer is nice because the toner doesn't dry out. You can let it sit for a while and be able to print again no problem.

(IMO) Those are only good if you're OK with using generic print carts.

I missed the first posting of the above by Nightfox. If I need good quality colour prints I go to one of the bigger places to have them done but, for day to day stuff, I can live with Black and White. I like having a printer since the nearest place I can get things printed is a 30 minute drive from here so about 5 years back I got a Samsung Laser mainly because, as Nightfox
mentioned, you don't have to worry about toner drying up like liquid ink..
..in fact I am still using the original years old cartridge that came with
the printer which also sits for months frozen (central Ontario, Canada) over the winter while I'm away and obviously does not get used a lot day to day either so dry toner has been a life saver for me.

│ one time my 'monitor' (i call them displays) blew and i was able to redirect │ the output to my printer so i could see what directries i was in and what i
│ was doing. that was only dos though. i can't belive i even did that. └─[M=>RM]

I had to do that once with my old XT. Had the output going to the Star
NX1000 I had hooked up to it. I still have that printer here somewhere.
If it was easy to get ribbons for I might find a use for it.

OMG the star NX1000 was the 2nd printer I ever bought, back in the 80's
It worked great with my TRS80 Color Compter 2.
My 1st printer was the Tandy DMP 105 dot matrix printer.

I always wanted one of those. I had a crappy Citizen printer that only did bold and regular print, if I recall those Star printers had a couple of fonts.

That was something I did not originally appreciate until I found a shareware (or freeware?) program called NX1000. Using that, and/or some control characters in PC-WRITE, you could at least change your font size. So if
you wanted something that looked like letterhead, with bold and bigger
letters, you could print it. ;)

IIRC, you could also italicize text and probably use a different font.
