Those messages are not from me, they are from the monitor process alertiung you to attempted hacks of your website. If you don't care about that I could disable the notifications. But in the meantime I have shut down your server...

If I dont hear otherwise I will remove it altogather in a week...

I think most attempts to hack a Synchronet BBS don't result in anything bad happening, so I think most of those hack attempts are harmless. Often, from what I've seen, they're bots trying random usernames which don't exist on the BBS, so they're not going to get in. So I don't think I'd want my email account to get bombarded with those hack attempts.

If you want to check on any hack attempts, you could look at the Synchronet logs.

That was my guess as well. While I've not used your service, that would be one thing I wouldn't be surprised to see, since every Internet connected host is going to get probed.

I see lots of hack attempts at ssh/scp and as the "root" and "support" addresses.... I use fail2ban so those attempts get the IP blocked automaticly...

I'm not sure I want to set up non-standard ports, as that tends to result in fewer real users using the system. It seems not many users will change the port for a particular BBS in their configuration.

I feel the same way. I just install fail2ban and let their invalid password attempts block their IP's...

i use peerblock with a custom list and then i have a bbs capcha, which blocks people that dont solve the capcha. if it's a scanner and they disconnect, that ip is blocked too. still, there is an unlimited amount of scanners and attackers.

he goes on benders every couple of years.

i hope he gets help, but he's been a drug addict all his life and i'm not sure he can live a normal life from all the damage.

last time i saw him he was accusing a bunch of people on dovenet of attacking his computers, which i dont believe.
