maybe it's a bit off topic, it's a way it's not.
Here's the problem. I want to provide as web based forum so sysop can advertise theirs tradewars games. Back in the day I would advertise on the forum over at http://www.classictw.com but let just say that when i went back to active tradewars hosting last year things have changed. Much slower, to be expected, it's not getting more popular for sure.
Advertise in DoveNet BBS ads, and it will be spread across MANY webbased
forums that are crawled by GOOGLE and other search provders daily. Justas
these messages are. the ECv4 Web for SBBS kicks ass, and is as good or better than any other web BB out there.
Just that I think, thanks to the hipsters maybe, retro gaming seem to have some traction, I guess it would be the perfect to advocate our deprecated technologies to a new crowd :-D
i'm intrigued by ECv4, i'll experiment with it, not crazy about it's look but it must be a was to customize, like i said i need to experiment. If you can add metadata information to the page like keywords and description in the metadata it does help the ranking on google.
but i'm allways affaid to open a forum from dovenet on the openweb don't want to create an eternal September on dovenet and end up with a bunch of troll. I like wordpress because it come with some protections, but nothing is full proof, to be honest my wordpress is on a shared host some I'm less afraid of being hacked :-)
maybe eventually i'll run the bbs vm and tradewar vm offsite but right now they are self hosted.
for some reason I don'l like running ANY of my stuff offsite, I love having my
loud heater of a BBS machine running providing that smooth hum we have all grown to know and love, and also when someone calls in, I love hearing the modem being picked up, really put me back to the good old days.
