I pulled my Raspberry PI 4 out of storage yesterday.

Looking to drop a RetroPI image on it for play.

What are some other use cases people are using them for? Yes a google search would turn this up, but curious what people are doing with them in the BBS scene.

You know those portable cell phone power banks/batteries people carry to recharge their phones? They can run a Raspberry Pi.

So, one of the main things I've used them for is creating time lapse cameras, which I can drop anywhere in the wilderness I like. A high capacity power bank runs 24-30 hours depending on weather.

I create a hotspot on my cell phone. I power up the camera, and it connects to my hot spot, then (if cell phone service is available) sets its clock over the Internet. I have the Pi running a web server which shows the most recent shot taken by the camera so I can use my phone to pull that up on the Pi to make sure things are aligned properly.

Through the scripts I can tweak things like resolution or how often the Pi should take a photograph.

Then I walk away and come back 24 hours later.

This is outside of Flagstaff, December 2018. I took one of those Rubbermaid tubs you can find for general storage at Walmart, inverted it and cut a hole for the camera to peer out of to protect it from the elements. I put the Raspberry Pi on a rock.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vw6UUDTz4fI

This was with the first gen camera. The subsequent cameras didn't do as well outdoors for some reason. I hear there is a new camera, and I look forward to seeing if it can handle more outdoor stuff.

I use mine to watch TV shows and movies.

The LibreElec distro at https://libreelec.tv/ provides ready-made images with the Kodi media player. It picks up the HDMI-CEC remote from most TVs, so you can drive it with your regular TV control. Otherwise you can connect via Kore app on Android which provides a remote, or USB keyboard/gamepad.

I ended up selling mine. No real need since I have a full blown server and devices already for my TV's.

    I have a cluster of 4 Pi 4B's, 2 of which are currently unised. I use them for;

NAS; I have 2x raid 10 arrays hanging off the back of one, giving my home network 32TB (16TB usable) of network attached storage

DMR Amateur radio hotspot; with an mmdvm (multimode digital voice modem) attached to the gpio I can access the dmr radio network
    with my anytone d878uv plus.

Hope this helps for ideas on what you could use them for =)

Do you have some more info about this? I see that the d878uv is a handheld porte, I've been looking around for a bit on DMR but am not quite sure where to start. :)

RetroPie on one. A second is a backup DNS server for my home network. I considered running a BBS on one as well but it's just one of those projects I'd start and then never finish.

Did you ever get more info on this or set up your own DMR hotspot? I've got both a simplex and duplex hotspot set up using MMDVM boards I got off eBay. They still have them on there, but you will get a better deal/price from AliExpress these days. I think my simplex mmdvm hat was $16, the duplex one was around $24. eBay has simplex ones with a screen (I already had one of those) for $21.

I never dove into this stuff actually, I just put it on my 'projects list' in case I run out of inspiration for things to do/explore :)

Incidentally, I went to a party yesterday where I met a guy who know about this stuff. Oh well, I might just start to check it out further :)
