I disembarked for the last time. Alameda was slated for closure later in
1997. The place is home to a few breweries, winery, and a distillery.
Some of the best views of SF.

They built the highway set from the Matrix sequel on the grounds of the air base. You could see it from the ferry. I took the Alameda/Oakland ferry to San Francisco for work every day and got to watch it progressing.

If you look closely at the film, you can see the names of exits on 101 on the set, and they pass by the same place a couple of times.

I currently reside in a small historic town in Texas. It still has some old buildings on main street. Last summer, a production company came to town and blocked off the four downtown blocks and dressed it up to do the exteriors for this season's 1923 show on Paramount. I don't think that Harrison Ford was in attendance tho.

The town name is Bartlett, and it has been the site for many exterior shots for many movies over the years. They shot some exteriors for Revolution here and if you look on street view, you can see the movie sets set up there.

Very fun - I'm poking around on Street View now - what streets did they
    use?

I lived and worked in San Francisco, which had a long relationship with
Hollywood. I used to see lots of movies being filmed in the city. I was
once in a bar sitting across from Michael Douglas and some of the
people from the movie "Basic Instinct".

Unfortunately, we elected a mayor who was a cronyist, and he replaced
career city workers with unqualified friends. He replaced the person in
charge of media/film relations with someone with no experience, and
movie filming in the city just stopped. Production companies complained
about the difficulties working with SF after years of cooperation, and
Vancouver was there to seize the opportunity.

Ah Bartlett, where the jail takes up an area the size of 1/8th of the
town and the highlight is trying to cross the road from Dollar General
    to Dollar Tree. :)

Back in the late '80s, I took my first solo plane trip to Anahiem, CA. While there I strolled around downtown LA and stumbled upon a "shoot". I didn't know it at first. There were no signs, barriers or anything that would keep unauthorized personel out. I got some good shots of various production people, as well as a couple of actors doing their scene; they were wearing heavy, Winter clothing...in 80+ degree weather. Probably using LA for another city in the Fall/Winter. After awhile I got hassaled by an angry women with a clip board, demanding "Why are you here? You're not suppoed to be here." I explained what happened, told her I'd leave and she just walked away in a huff.
