Hey.. Any Civil War buffs like me out in BBS land? It's a huge hobby of mine. I'm wondering if I have any company.

I haven't gone that far back in history yet :) I really became interested in this type of thing starting with my own personal experiences in Iraq/Afghanistan/Africa. My interest has grown progressively more historic, and I more or less studied the Vietnam war, Korean war, WWII, and WWI. I suspect the Civil War is likely next on the list!

Any good starter resources you think would be interesting for someone that isn't terribly well read on this one?

I would not call my self a "buff" but I have an interest in history in
general, and US history in particular.

I can tell you what got me hooked. The movie "Gettysburg". It is said this movie is the most historically correct movie ever made about the Civil War. Because soldiers were allowed to write and send letters there's a wealth of information. So much of it is left up to debate. Why did that brigade retreat? Was that Captain too hungover to lead the charge? Then once you sink your teeth into it you can go tour the battle field to walk and see where it all happened. If you really think about it 1863 was not that long ago. Americans were killing Americans on their own country. So yea..A good place to start is "The Battle of Gettysburg.
