Lone Wolfe Software - October 2026
Lone Wolfe Software announces PowerTerm 1.0, a terminal program for
Windows in
the spirit of SecureCRT. One window, a tab per connection, and
everything
needed to work on Linux and Unix hosts, IBM i systems and bulletin
board
systems: SSH2, Telnet, TN5250 and rlogin connections; xterm, VT,
ANSI-BBS,
RIPscrip and IBM 5250 emulation; the classic X/Y/ZMODEM and Kermit
file
transfers; and PowerTerm Script automation.
NEW IN THIS RELEASE
-------------------
AUTOMATION
PowerTerm Script, a small BASIC-like language, automates what you
would
otherwise type: wait for prompts, send answers, step through IBM i
screens,
run ZMODEM or Kermit transfers and log the session. Give any
dialing-directory entry a logon script, or run jobs unattended
from Windows
Task Scheduler with "PowerTerm /script".
SECURE CONNECTIONS
SSH2 logins now work with keys as well as passwords: Ed25519 and
RSA keys
from OpenSSH, PuTTY (.ppk versions 2 and 3), PEM and PKCS#8 files,
with or
without a passphrase. Telnet and TN5250 can run over SSL/TLS (port
992),
using Windows' own TLS and certificate checks; a self-signed IBM i
certificate is shown with its fingerprint once and then
remembered.
FOR THE IBM i
Besides the 3179-2 and 3477-FC displays, PowerTerm can now be an
IBM 3812
printer: spooled files sent to its printer device come out on any
Windows
printer and are saved as text files. Twenty-four EBCDIC code pages
are built
in - from US and European languages to Greek, Cyrillic and Turkish
- and the
5555-C01 display shows Japanese, Korean and Chinese double-byte
text, typed
with the Windows input method. An experimental enhanced 5250 mode
draws the
IBM i's pop-up windows, selection fields and scroll bars, all
clickable with
the mouse.
WORKING IN THE TERMINAL
Open up to 16 tabs, every one connected and receiving at once, and
close,
reconnect or duplicate each on its own. Each tab keeps 1000 lines
of
scrollback; full-screen programs like vi and less get their own
screen; and
text can be selected with the mouse and copied or pasted with the
usual
keys, Unicode included.
