Awsome stuff. My only regret is that many of the pieces are not sized for
BBS viewing. Many of the pieces are wider than 80 columns. It makes for
    less than appealing viewing.

For better or for worse many art scene guys have always been more about creating great and/or respectable art than catering to the BBS world. That's especially true nowadays - a lot of the best guys in Blocktronics are true artists, and want to push the envelope to different and new tecnhologies and styles. Wide BINs, although more rare than they are now, have been one way to do that for ages. It's not practical at all, but it definitely packs a "wow, this is text mode?!' wallop. You can say the same thing about using
alternative fonts, iCE colors, 24 bit ANSIs, and Xbins/ADFs/TFXs. RIP and even VGA had the same cache back in the day.

Personally, as a SysOp, modder, and coder in the 90s, it frusted me to no end that so much otherwise great art scene output wasn't geared to being used for practical purposes, but that was a battle I never had any luck with
fighting amongst my art scene friends and peers... :) My main recourse is personally making sure as much of my own limited art output is done for
actual active BBSes and other projects, especially those in desperate need,
as possible. Unfortunately I do feel like a little bit of an art whore when I scan the BBS Ads sub here and see like 5 of my ASCIIs in a row... but hey,
it's for the greater good! ;)

I can agree with you... up to a point. Considering that there seems to be
only one app in existence that can display ANSI files that are greater than
80 chars wide, they have severely limited their ability to have their work seen. If their audience doesn't have PabloDraw, then they aren't going to
    get their pieces viewed.

Yeah, I know what thats like, when I see my mpl's and apps being used on a
BBS. But that's why I put them out there, right?

Just remember if you add the Blocktober or any art packs as full folders
to your Mystic Art Gallery to omit the high res or rip screens or anything
else that may display shitty. Don't just dump everything in there - go
through it and weed out the pieces that dont play nice. Then fire up the
gallery and see if you have any screen tearing anomaly going on in any of
the screens. It usually will be a long screen in 80 columns. If you have the
skills in PabloDraw or ACiDDraw erase everything on column 80 and save. That
should take care of it. Most advanced sysops are well aware of this technique
but there are some that may find this info helpful.

Art for many "true artists" (to quote myself) is all about that creative
energy release, the self expression. At some point regard for how it is consumed by others goes completely out of the window. That's one of the
reasons so many artists are starving, right? And when it comes to the art
scene it's not like there's much incentive to try to appeal to potential buyers. Most of these guys are drawing for themselves and their fellow
artists with little regard to anyone else who might be viewing it.

I realize that isn't in any way a real defense to what you're saying, I actually agree with you, but at the same time I understand and relate to the mindset.

I think you misinterpreted - he is actually referring more to .BINs with over 80 columns than ANSIs that go to the 80th column.

This topic made me think about something.

Someone (Gryphon maybe?) made a mod for Mystic I believe, that let's you pick how you want your ansi displayed (ie: top/down, left/right, diagonal, etc.. kinda like the way you can save different display methods in the old TheDraw.

If this could somehow be utilized to be able to view .BINs, that would be fraggin' awesome!

FWIW, I have started keeping the high-res items in the gallery too. My
gallery directories are linked in my website, so I can actually click on the high rez jpg or whatever, and have it be displayed.

I use ansilove on my website to display the ansis in my gallery folder. But
it defaults to 80 columns. So even the wide ansis don't get displayed correctly that way. I would have to add some sort of logic to the website to be able to determine the width, and then be able to pass it to ansilove. My skills aren't up to par for that just yet.

Part of my issue is that I do most of my development on a Raspberry Pi ARM device. I have not been able to get 'mono PabloDraw.exe' to work yet. Mono keeps giving me an error that I can't seem to fix.

Yes, that was me. I did make a mystic app for that. It does not read bin files tho :(

But for wid ansi's, the problem remains the same. For my app to work, it has to take a snapshot of the ansi in 80x25 format. For this to work on wide format ansis, each part of the original ansi needs to be saved in a separate file in 80x25 format. Then it would be possible to do a sliding from one ansi to the next. One other downfall for this method is that it can't be viewed in the Mystic gallery.

Actually, I don't use my Pi as a desktop. I use it for the BBS and it's headless. I use my ODROID XU4 as a desktop. This is the one that I'm having mono issues with.

But having said that, I still use the 32bit that comes from the raspberry pi download page.

That's my plan for the Pi3 as well. If all goes well I may look into an ODROID as well, but we'll see. I'm definitely going to need another device for a media

But having said that, I still use the 32bit that comes from the

I don't think they're going to make a 64bit distro for the Pi3. There's only 1gb ram so there's really no need for it (or so it seems when reading a bunch of articles). I'm going to give the Arch Linux ARM distro a shot. 32bit, of course.
